ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC SERVICES:
Chiropractic is derived from the greek words chiros and praktikos meaning "done by hand". It’s purpose is to diagnose and treat mechanical disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system with the intention of affecting the nervous system and improving health. It is based on the premise that a spinal joint dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system and result in many different conditions of diminished health.
Chiropractic is most commonly associated with injures of the back or neck. Adjustments can also be beneficial for other musculoskeletal problems such as; jaw, shoulder, wrist, hand, hip, knee, ankle, and foot complaints. Chiropractic has also anecdotally been known to help with asthma, ear infections, vertigo/dizziness, constipation, and many other visceral or non musculoskeletal conditions.
TRADITIONAL CHIROPRACTIC:
There are many techniques of chiropractic care available today. At Chagrin Valley Chiropractic and Acupuncture Center, Dr Nassif specializes in Activator® instrument adjusting which consists of using a small device that delivers controlled force thrusts to very specific areas of the body which are found to be mis-aligned through a series of movement and muscle tests. Dr Nassif also has experience in a more traditional style of chiropractic which involves manual manipulation of the joints of the spine and extremities.
Aside from the adjustment or manipulation of the joints Dr Nassif also employs many “soft tissue” techniques (manual techniques that focus on the muscles tendons, and ligaments of the body).
THE GRASTON TECHNIQUE:
Graston Technique® is an evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively address scar tissue and fascial restrictions through comprehensive training, resulting in improved patient outcomes.
COX FLEXION/DISTRACTION:
Cox® Technic is a non-surgical, doctor-controlled, hands on spinal manipulation performed with the patient lying on The Cox® Table. The table permits the effective administration of flexion-distraction and decompression adjustment and manipulation. The goal of Cox® Technic is to help the spinal pain patient go from “pain” to “no pain” as quickly as possible.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE:
Myofascial release (or MFR) is a soft tissue therapy for the treatment of skeletal muscle immobility and pain. Self-myofascial release (or SMFR) refers to someone performing this therapy on themself. This alternative medicine therapy aims to relax contracted muscles, improve blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulate the stretch reflex in muscles.
SACRO OCCIPITAL TECHNIQUE:
Sacro Occipital Technique is a non-force method of balancing the pelvis. It is a relaxing and calming way to align the hips. S.O.T. is a comprehensive and advanced concept of Chiropractic pioneered and developed through study, research and clinical application by Dr. M. B. DeJarnette. For more than half a century Dr. DeJarnette researched and studied every aspect of physiology and anatomy and clinically found that human structural distortion falls into three basic groups. He labeled these groups as Categories I, II, and III. This non-force way of balancing the pelvis and spine utilizes specially designed wedges or blocks.
